Reunited and it feels so good: Daryl and Carol are back in The Book Of Carol Trailer, Renewed for Season 3
July 30, 2024The universe of The Walking Dead has been no stranger to being highlighted at the San Diego Comic Con, and 2024 was no different. Not only were we able to witness some incredible new artwork for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon-The Book Of Carol season 2, but we finally get a first-look at the trailer. What’s to come for both Daryl and Carol, and their journey to each other looks mind-blowing.
Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride were on hand to talk about the season and the future of their spinoff. Fans had recently speculated they were unsure of Carol’s future from here on out, but Melissa McBride made it no secret that she’s not going anywhere. Her welcome to France was just the start of the journey for the Queen of The Walking Dead franchise.
On Carol’s side of the trailer we see her stateside in Maine looking for her better half. Eventually, Carol comes across a man named Ash, an engineer from Boston who moved his family to his weekend house in Maine after the apocalypse began. She must seek the help of a stranger in her desperate but self-serving manner. This is Carol we are talking about and nothing will stop her from being the hero that Daryl needs her to be.
On Daryl’s end, he seems to be adjusting to his life in France in a begrudging fashion. He made his choices, but he doesn’t seem happy with them, almost resentful of the people who have helped guilt him into staying. Are the bonds he made enough to keep him for good? Or is there another bond that even an ocean can’t measure?
Whatever reservations Ash had about helping Carol get to France won’t matter for long. The trailer shows them in a plane flying across the ocean. The destiny when they get there is unknown, but we can see Carol and Ash fighting for their lives the minute they step onto land.
On the French side, Laurent knows Daryl is so immensely homesick and Daryl has a strong need to protect this kid even if he’s not his to protect. That’s all in Daryl’s nature. Dixon tells Laurent that he and Isabelle have been talking and contemplating on the three of them all going back to America together. While that may fix Daryl’s problems, it creates an even bigger one for the future of France.
“I keep thinking about all the people I left behind, wondering if they’re still thinking about me.” Soon Daryl will find out because his home is coming to his new door step. He will have to answer for not returning home, but what’s most exciting for this spinoff is any impending news Carol might have from back home. Has Rick returned yet? And why has Carol said that Daryl is the only family she has left?
“Some Bonds Have No Borders”
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon-The Book Of Carol will premiere September 19, on AMC and AMC+. In other exciting news the series has been renewed for a third season and will start filming in different areas of Spain in just a couple of weeks.
“France made Daryl and Carol’s story into an epic poem with what we found there. What’s to come in Spain may even surpass it—and we’re so damn happy to bring the audience of the Terrific Two alongside new compelling characters, in a yet unseen, beautiful, horrific corner of their broken world.”-Scott Gimple on season 3 of Daryl Dixon: The Book Of Carol
The new season will be filming in Madrid, but just as it was in France, the team will be moving around a little. Other filming locations will take place in Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia, and the Valencia regions, according to TV Line.
The third season’s official description for The Book Of Carol tracks Carol and Daryl as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through a distant land with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.
“I’m really appreciating the new challenges for Daryl and Carol being so far from all they’ve ever known… what it means for them, what it brings for each of them, apart and together. There’s still so much ahead to unpack in France for the coming season two, and a breathtaking finale. And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling is making the most of all that is so beautiful and unique to Spain. We start shooting there in just a few weeks… such excitement looking forward!”-Melissa McBride on the upcoming filming season in Spain

Melissa McBride did tease in an interview with The Wrap at the San Diego Comic-Con that it won’t take long for Daryl and Carol to reunite. At the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year Norman Reedus teased that they will get together in episode 2. While some fans thought he was joking, there may be some truth to that after all.
The future of The Walking Dead looks bright with these two leading the way. And Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride have never looked happier. It was a treat to see them so thrilled, giddy, and excited to be together again doing the dream spinoff they planned so many years for. All those dreams are coming to fruition now. These are exciting times for TWDU.
We have a ways to go to get to the finish line and watch season 2 unfold, but some great things to look forward to is something that The Walking Dead’s mothership had a hard time with. Carol and Daryl will be dealing with old repercussions of loss and unspoken things that the main show never gave us. Stories fans have been dying for seasons. But with too much added cast members, it was impossible to do in Georgia.
This is their show and will be about their heart, their journeys, their experiences, and their future. All the characters we see and will see are supporting characters in their stories.
Now, with Melissa and Norman holding the titles of Executive Producer, they can be a part of those conversations and bring both their characters healing, joy, and hopefully a bit of happiness in between the horrific drama that’s to come. Don’t miss a minute of the action on Sunday, September 29 on AMC and AMC+.
